Who-Rae Australia has released the Maplock GPS anti-theft device which it claims is the world’s first motor vehicle GPS security device.
The Maplock is a two part locking system which attaches over the GPS unit and locks with a key. It fits most portable GPS units with screen sizes between 3.5” and 5”.
Additionally, the bright colours of Maplock are intended to deter thieves from breaking a window to gain entry to the vehicle, according to Who-Rae Australia.
Maplock is now available in SuperCheap Auto and Dick Smith stores. In May, it will be available from other major electronic and auto retailers.
Who-Rae Australia says it recently signed a two-year agreement with European distributor Dectel to distribute the Maplock. It is also negotiating deals with major retailers in the US and Canada. Pre-sales of the units have been available through amazon.com.
Who-Rae Australia Business Manager, Chris Pawsey, says the theft of GPS units globally is a rising problem in virtually every country where portable GPS devices are sold.
