The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has released its election questionnaire, which asks the Liberal Party, The Nationals, Labor and The Greens to state their policies regarding the industry’s key issues.

The questionnaire poses 20 questions about the parties’ commitment to building more rest areas, better roads, truck safety and regulation.

ATA chief executive, Stuart St Clair, says the policies that Australia’s political parties propose will have a direct impact on the trucking industry and the Australian economy.

“Trucking plays a key role in the Australian economy, and with the freight task set to double, the decisions made by the incoming government will have a massive impact on Australia’s ability to stay competitive into the future,” St Clair said.

“By posing our questions to the parties, we are giving people in the trucking industry the facts about what is being promised.

They will then be able to make up their own minds on which party offers the best deal for their business, their jobs and their livelihood.”

The parties have been asked to respond to the questionnaire by 11 August 2010.  After receiving the responses, the ATA will publish the results on 13 August 2010.

The election questionnaire is available at the ATA website www.atatruck.net.au.
