Companies are always faced with the challenge of providing and shipping goods as quickly as possible.

Technology producer Bizerba from Balingen, Germany has developed a Parcel Shipping System (PSS), which enables complete handling of the shipping of letters, parcels and deliveries for forwarding companies.

From 29 September until 1 October 2009 Bizerba will launch its Parcel-Shipping-System (PSS) at the greatest trade fair for the postal industries PostExpo held in Hanover.

The system is scaleable, from single-position solutions through multiple-position solutions to fully automated systems.

At the most basic design level, the PSS software operates in combination with a PC using Windows as well as a laser printer and connected calibratable scales. The system can easily be integrated with the customer’s computer network.

“The customer’s computer system transfers the shipping data of an order to the PSS, including the recipient’s address or the recipient’s preferred carrier," explains Dieter Conzelmann, Director Industry Solution for Bizerba.

"Through the software’s graphical interface, the operator may then make different settings. For example, it is possible to select the carrier and possibly also the type of service, or change it at the recipient’s request.”

The PSS is a shipping solution approved by all carriers. From DPD, GLS, DHL and UPS, TNT to Deutsche Post, the system takes all requirements of the carriers into consideration and can be calibrated as a whole in connection with scales.

“The system prepares and prints the respective parcel label and returns the parcel number to the computer system," says Conzelmann.

"This feedback is important for the sales department, in order to enable to track the parcel using track and trace technology.

"In addition, the PSS is a cost-effective instrument to comply with the ISO 9000 standards in the shipping area. This includes registration and documentation of all shipments, as well as the creation of a clear passage of risk to the carrier with the created handover lists, which are signed by the carrier’s collectors, such as DHL, therefore acknowledging receipt of the shipments.”

When used in a fully automated system, the shipment management is initiated through automatic identification of the parcel, the parcel is weighed with automatic continuous scales, and the parcel label is automatically attached to the parcel with a stamp applicator.

The required components can be easily integrated in the customer’s existing conveying equipment.
