Lindsay Fox announced as road safety ambassador

Founder of ATA member company Linfox, Lindsay Fox, has been announced as one of four road safety ambassadors to promote the work of the newly established National Road Safety Council.

Joining Lindsay as ambassadors are: David Wirrpanda — former AFL player; Mel Doyle — co-host of the Sunrise program; and Neil Mitchell — radio presenter.

The announcement of the road safety ambassadors took place at today’s ATC meeting, where transport ministers also announced the seven top road safety experts who have been appointed to the Council.

The Council will be chaired by Mr Roger Cook AM, the current chair of the South Australian Motor Accident Commission.

The other members are:

  • Emeritus Professor MaryAnn Bin-Sallik — Former Dean, Indigenous Research and Education, Charles Darwin University;
  • Ann Bunnell — Chair, Australian Foundation of the Alliance for Healthy Cities; Freda Crucitti — President, Australian Automobile Association;
  • Wayne Gardner AM — Former world motorcycle racing champion;
  • Dr Soames Job — Director, NSW Centre for Road Safety, Roads and Traffic Authority; and
  • Professor Ian Johnston AM — Deputy Chairman, National Transport Commission.

The Council’s immediate task will be to advise governments on the development of the next 10-year National Road Safety Strategy which will set a long term vision for road safety improvements and adopt explicit national targets.

It will also be able to commission research into the effectiveness of potential as well as existing measures designed to reduce the road toll.
