Layer Tech has been selected from over 130 entries as a winner of the 2008 WorkSafe Victoria safety awards.

In a unanimous decision by the selection panel the FROGLIFT Layer Picker took out the award in the “Best Solution for preventing Musculoskeletal Disorders” category in a joint submission with Toll In2Store.

The winners were announced at a gala dinner held at the Crown Palladium on October 30th which was attended by over 900 guests.

Upon receiving the award from Greg Tweedly, CEO of Worksafe Victoria, Layertech Director Bill Pearce said, "this award has been the culmination and recognition of several years hard work in development and field testing of the Froglift system."

"To hear the warehouse operators who were previously shifting layers of cartons by hand saying at the end of their working day 'my back no longer hurts', brings great personal satisfaction."

"If we have helped to prevent even one spinal injury in the workplace from manual handling, then we have done our job."

Layer Tech and Toll In2Store identified the risks and hazards in manually de-layering pallets of imported cartons of confectionary.

The product is delivered on import pallets in containers to the warehouse. The cartons arrive with a stack height configuration of over 2m which then need to be 'down-stacked' on to CHEP pallets to a height 1.2m before they can be placed into pallet racking for storage .

This hazard was addressed through the design and implementation of the front mounted version of the patented FROGLIFT Vacuum Layer Picker system.

In addition to eliminating the OHS risks, the system also delivered a 500% productivity increase for the task.

The 20th Annual WorkSafe Victoria Awards Dinner was the major highlight of WorkSafe Week.

This premier event acknowledges the individuals and businesses that have made significant contributions to improving health and safety in the workplace over the past 12 months.

Their outstanding achievements make Victoria a safer place to work.
