TNT Express’ Asia regional head office in Singapore has achieved compliance with ISO 28000:2007 Supply Chain Security Management.
TNT Express is the first express integrator to achieve certification to this new security standard.
The ISO 28000 standard helps organizations establish procedures and policies, as well as preventative action plans to close gaps in the supply chain and establish a secure distribution network.
Taking into account both the strategic and operational levels, the all-encompassing security standard fulfills most international customs security requirements while simultaneously increasing the visibility and efficiency of the supply chain.
Given the current economic crisis, the increased pressure demands that organizations prioritise global security and establish a well-organised and effective supply chain that ensures on-time delivery and minimal losses.
ISO 28000 is seeing a wider uptake from a range of industries, ensuring that the complete supply chain increases its security.
Tony Lugg, director of security, TNT Asia says many TNT facilities in the region are already TAPA-certified and provide a foundation for enhancing our security architecture.
"Taking security to the next level, we made a decision to re-assess and scrutinise our security network and embark on achieving the higher, more holistic certification that is ISO 28000," Lugg says.
"The certification process propelled us to draw up a framework to work through wider security issues — both upstream and downstream the supply chain — in a systematic way.”
“As an early adopter of the ISO 28000 scheme and the first in its field, TNT has demonstrated its dedication to security,” adds Tim Miller, TUV Rheinland’s Global Head of ISO 28000 business, who conferred TNT with its certification.
“TNT’s detailed and comprehensive security management system is a tribute to the security commitment of the company.
"We were particularly impressed with TNT’s approach to their customer’s security requirements, which clearly had increased the level of customer confidence.
"ISO 28000 certification is an important step towards securing the global supply chain and TUV Rheinland looks forward to working with other industry leaders to enhance security.”
