DB Schenker was awarded the international and domestic Australian 'Integrated Logistics Services' (ILS) contract by Chevron Australia to transport material and equipment on a global basis for the Gorgon Project.
The ILS contract for the Barrow Island LNG Plant is estimated at AU$ 590 Million over four years. It is anticipated that materials in excess of two million freight tonnes will be moved to module fabrication yards in Asia and/or directly to Australia.
The Gorgon Project, Australia's largest resources project to date, with a capex of AU$ 43 Billion, underscores DB Schenker's position as a leading logistics provider of project freight management services not only in Australia's energy and resource markets, but also in the Australian project logistics market.
"We have a successful track record in upstream and downstream oil and gas projects given our ability to deliver services on time and in budget," says Ron Koehler, CEO Schenker Australia Pty Ltd.
"We are proud to be part of such a significant project as Gorgon and committed to deliver a best in class service. Already we have in place a core project team, whose numbers will be growing significantly following the commencement of operations on the 15th of September 2009.”
DB Schenker is driven by a long term commitment to Australia and an extensive client base in the country. To this end DB Schenker has undertaken significant investment in purpose built state-of-the-art logistics facilities.
Focussing on sustainability and environmental initiatives to become the world’s leading green logistics provider, DB Schenker recently opened its new 'Green Terminal' at Melbourne Airport which features solar panels, rain water tanks, and much more. In NSW integrating rail into intermodal transport concepts has been implemented.
A new logistics centre located at the Yennora railway hub will take trucks of the congested roads.
Further, a brand new facility in Perth is the latest addition to the improved and streamlined operations of DB Schenker which will give the logistics provider a strong presence in Australia.
Across the states, DB Schenker now provides more than 100,000 square metre warehouse space for customers from all industries.
